Pinocchio barked frantically to warn his master. The thieves, startled, stood frozen in place and did not know how to act. Suddenly, they heard a gunshot. The owner ran quickly and captured the four thieves. He said, "At last you've fallen into my hands! I'll just take you to the innkeeper in the nearby village tomorrow and he'll skin you and cook you like a hare in sweet and sour sauce."

He praised Pinocchio and granted him his freedom. Overjoyed, Pinocchio thanked the man and ran back to the forest.
